Size of image intensifier.

The input screen diameter of the image intensifier ranges from 4 inches to 16 inches. Enhancers with small input screens operate more flexibly and cheaply. Small image intensifiers can improve resolution slightly, because electrons from the photocathode impact the output screen with higher accuracy. However, the range of the patient’s body that the input screen can surround is limited. Larger enhancers are expensive and inexpensive to operate, but they can provide greater visual field and image enlargement opportunities.

The diameter of the image intensifier input screen should be larger than that of the area on the patient’s body that needs to be studied.
